Title
Fancy Flowers
Introduction

For my experiment, I wanted to know what would happen if I put a few drops of food coloring in fresh cut white carnations' water each day. What would happen to the flowers color?, Would the flower die due to the food coloring?, etc.

I. Hypothesis

I predicted that the flower with the blue coloring and the flower with the red food coloring would be the flowers with the most color in the end. I also predicted that the flower with the yellow coloring, wouldn't have any color because yellow is such a light color.

II. Materials and Methods

For my project, I needed to use the following:

  • 8 vases
  • 4 tubes of food coloring (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow)
  • 8 flowers (White and Cut)
  • Water

For my project, I would put 4 fresh cut white carnation flowers in 4 different vases. Every day I would put 3 drops of the food coloring in the flowers water. I would continue this for 14 days, and after 14 days, I would see how the flowers had changed.

III. Results

In the end, my prediction was TOTALLY off. The flower with the red food coloring, came out with very little red on it. The flower with the blue food coloring, came out with a lot of blue. I guess I got that little piece of my prediction right. The flower with green, came out with only a few streaks of green. But, the yellow came out with the most color. The whole flower was yellow. You couldn't even see a little speck of white.

IV. Conclusion

So, after 14 days of putting food color in flowers, I came out with pretty accurate results. All the flowers had some type of color on them, but none of them came out the same. Some flowers had more color than others. Some of the flowers even died or had dying petals. The flowers that died completely were the ones that had the most color. (The yellow and the blue I believe.) And the flowers that had the ends of the pedals dying were the ones that had the least color. (Red and green.)

V. Explanation

I think I got the results that I got because of the flower. I know that I don't know that the flower could have caused the results, but that's what I believe. It probably depended on the how much of the water the plant could suck up, and other factors.
